A little over 12 kms away from the town of Koraput is Durgamadhaba Coffee Estate that is, arguably, one of the smallest coffee farms in the region. The owner, Mr. Trilochan Satapathy, quit a cushy government job in the mid 1990s to pursue coffee cultivation with a zeal to lead an independent life while generating employment opportunities for the economically underprivileged. Producing high quality coffee is an all-consuming passion for Mr. Satapathy that has led to a complete hands-on approach to every aspect of farm management and an eagerness to learn more. His passion for coffee is only exceeded by his spirituality – finding expression not only in the name of the farm but in the way he continues to nourish the farm despite facing numerous challenges.

In 2021, his coffee became the first estate-based coffee to be showcased by a nationally reputed coffee roaster (Dope Coffee) bringing the attention of the Indian coffee community to the Koraput region. A year later, coffee from this farm would also feature in the debut offering of Assava Coffee, one of the first homegrown coffee roasters of Odisha. Having embraced varietal segregation, the farm is embracing innovative post-harvest processing to up its specialty coffee offering in the coming seasons!

Cupping Notes: The washed coffee has been described as Mild Citrus and Jaggery like with notes of Toasted Nuts and Maple Syrup.
